Wine Tourism Generates Over €3 Billion for Italian Wineries

By DRINKS.GR

According to Vinetur, the Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia has recently highlighted the growing significance of wine tourism in Italy, which has now generated over €3 billion for local wineries. This trend reflects a shift in how visitors experience the beautiful island of Sicily, where wine plays a pivotal role in their exploration.

The consortium’s announcement coincides with the start of summer, emphasizing the blend of beaches, historic towns, and culinary experiences that characterize Sicilian tourism. The first wine tourism market report by Wine Monitor revealed that winery visits now account for an average of 21% of total revenue for Italian wine producers.

As demand for immersive wine tourism experiences rises, the consortium has identified three standout wines ideal for summer occasions. For sunset aperitivos, the Insolia Sicilia DOC is recommended, celebrated for its notes of white flowers and Mediterranean herbs. For outdoor seafood lunches, the Grillo Sicilia DOC stands out with its salinity and citrus profile. Finally, for relaxed evening gatherings, the Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC Rosé offers delightful flavors of wild strawberry and pomegranate.

Established in 2012, the Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia aims to promote Sicilian wines and protect the integrity of the DOC Sicilia appellation while supporting local producers and consumers.
