The Future of Greek Wine: New Trends and Recognizable Varieties

By · April 23, 2026

The wine industry is entering a new era in 2026, as changes arising from various factors are impacting the wine market. From the lifting of Trump tariffs by the US Supreme Court to the effects of climate change, the challenges are numerous.

According to the UK Meteorological Service, 2026 is expected to be one of the four hottest years on record. This entails more natural disasters, such as floods, storms, and wildfires, which will force winemakers to adapt by planting vineyards in cooler climates, such as Sweden.

Meanwhile, the trends of 2025 continue to evolve. Non-alcoholic wines are gaining popularity, offering more options in restaurants, while technology is enhancing their taste. White wines remain more popular than red, and wineries are investing more in organic farming.

Although wine consumption may have decreased, new data shows that Gen Z (born from 1997 to 2012) has boosted sales, surpassing previous generations. Millennials have also become the largest group of wine consumers, outpacing boomers.

While champagne sales are declining, sparkling wine seems to be less affected by the economic downturn, indicating the resilience of the industry.
