Increase in Exports of Greek Food and Beverages in International Markets

By · March 1, 2026

The Greek agricultural production and agri-food industry play a crucial role in the country’s economy, despite the growth of other sectors such as tourism. The exports of Greek food and beverage products account for approximately ¼ of total exports, with a turnover reaching 11-12 billion euros.

Food exports, both fresh and processed, have shown an impressive increase of 73% over the five-year period from 2019 to 2024, reaching a value of 8.25 billion euros last year. In the first quarter of 2025, exports continued to rise by 13.8%, reaching 2.252 billion euros.

Equally impressive was the increase in beverage exports, with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages amounting to approximately 1.4 billion euros. Wine exports reached 90-100 million euros, while ouzo/tsipouro exports ranged from 130-160 million euros. Noteworthy was also the increase in the exports of oils and fats, which amounted to approximately 1.1 billion euros.

The 16th episode of the podcast series “International Perspective” examines the trajectory of Greek food and beverages in international markets, with a focus on the demanding markets of North America. The discussion analyzes the strengths and weaknesses, as well as the need for rebranding so that Greek products are associated with Greek gastronomy and culture.

Notable guests on the show include Alexandros Georgiadis and George Soleas, who are active in the food and beverage sector in North America. Mr. Georgiadis is the president of Krinos Foods Canada Ltd. and Tiras Dairies Inc., which are the largest importers of Greek products in Canada.
