Stainless Steel Tanks Dominate Wine Market Sales

By DRINKS.GR · October 18, 2026 · 2 min read

According to The Drinks Business, a recent report by Market Intelo reveals that stainless steel tanks have become the leading choice in the wine industry, accounting for 42.5% of all global wine tanks in 2025. This trend is largely attributed to the material’s superior hygiene, durability, and resistance to corrosion, making it the preferred option for commercial wine production.

In comparison, concrete tanks hold a 28.3% market share, while oak tanks account for just 16.8%, primarily used for aging premium red wines. The report indicates that the shift towards stainless steel is driven by the increasing demand for high-quality wine.

Looking ahead, sales of stainless steel wine tanks are projected to grow at a 5.1% CAGR from 2025 to 2034, fueled by ongoing replacement cycles and a global trend towards premium wine production. Meanwhile, concrete tanks are expected to see a growth rate of 3.2% CAGR, particularly in traditional wine-producing regions like France, Italy, and Spain.

The oak segment is anticipated to grow at approximately 4.3% CAGR, supported by consistent demand from premium producers. It’s important to note that this analysis focuses specifically on oak wine tanks, which can hold significantly larger volumes compared to smaller oak barrels.

The advantages of stainless steel are clear. The report highlights its superior sanitation, excellent temperature control, and minimal maintenance requirements. These tanks are also equipped with advanced monitoring systems for optimal fermentation management, making them the industry standard for modern wineries.

Conversely, concrete tanks offer excellent thermal stability and cost-effectiveness, although they are less prevalent in the commercial sector. As the wine industry evolves, the dominance of stainless steel tanks seems set to continue.
